Most wine lovers go down the same path. We start with…. Yup, you guessed it Moscato. Then one day, the sweetness we once loved, we now wonder how it’s even labeled as a wine. Then, there is the switch from white to red. Most of us start at Pinot Noir and then eventually peak when we start drinking Cabernet, even in the summer.

Quick Tip: If you’re looking to transition from white to red, start with refrigerated (yes, I said refrigerated) Pinot Noir and then transition into proper red wine temperature and eventually a more dry wine. Extreme chilling of the red wine will help it seem not as dry and will allow for a smoother transition.

Okay, back to my list. In every winos wine loving adventure, there comes a time when we decide that $9.99 bottles just aren’t enough for us anymore. Or at least not until we are on bottle two. We’ve tasted higher price points and we KNOW the difference. Sadly, our debit cards also know the difference. From one wine loving, budget conscious person to another – here are my top three favorite red wines for $20 or less! I should note that I’m Cabernet Sauvignon obsessed, which will be obvious as you read my list.

Disclaimer: For this list I chose wines that you could easily find at any grocery store, Target, etc. This does not include wine that you’d have to go into a liquor or specialty wine store. That would be a different list. I wanted this list to have easily accessible wines.

Josh Cabernet
Price Point: $11 – $15 (depending on the store)
Notes: Josh Merlot is very good as well! Josh would be a brand I trust for any type of wine.

Freakshow Cabernet
Price Point: $15 – 19 (depending on the store)
Notes: I’ve had the Freakshow Red Blend and it wasn’t as good, but that could just be because I’m in LOVE with the cab.

Decoy Cabernet
Price Point
: $18 – $20
Notes: In my opinion, this wine tastes well above it’s price point.

A bonus of moving up the price ladder? I don’t tend to get wine mouth as easily (aka red teeth and lips). I’m not sure if it’s the price point or not, but I’ll take it.

I hope this list helps you transition to your next phase in your wine adventure! Drink on, wine lovers! Drink on.
