A Simple Tip to Increase Workout Performance

My #fASHionatelyFit series is back and today we’re talking performance! It’s been three years since I’ve run my last half marathon, and I am SO excited to be signing up for one this fall. Training for any type of physical race/competition requires a lot of time, and dedication. I work full time (which includes travel), I am fixing up my new home, I write for my blog, and I attempt to have a social life. I always try to fit in a workout, but I sadly have a tendency to put my fitness goals on the back burner. But not anymore! I’m so focused and determined to make this my best half marathon yet, and I’m doing this with the help of EAS® 100% Whey Protein.

I’m terrible at recovering from long runs. Previously I wasn’t stretching or eating the proper nutrients post run to let my body recover. Not only did that make me feel sluggish, but it really affected the performance of my next run. So this is how I’m making a change to affect my running performance!

After my run, I made up a shake using the recommended two scoops of protein powder, 1/2 cup blue berries, 1/2 cup spinach, water and ice. I wanted to not only get the protein my body needs to recover and allow me to have a stronger performance next run, but also get in a serving of fruit and veggies. When making your protein shake get creative. If you work out in the morning, add cold coffee for a caffeine kick. Or, make your protein shake your sweet treat and add some Almond Butter.

From what I’ve read, you should drink your recovering drink within 30 minutes of a run. It’s so important that your body properly recovers so your performance can continue to increase. Just like a pair of shoes with a broken heal aren’t the best for walking in, your body without proper nutrients isn’t going to perform to its potential.
